Back Home Again...

In Ohio...although not my home for very much longer. I have to wrap everything up here and pack it all up to move.

California was fun, but busy. We had to open a bank account, switch over Kristina's cell phone to a local number....etc. blah...blah. We had several opportunities to sign a petition to Recall Gov. Davis. We could have registered to vote as well, but since we don't have an official address yet, I didn't want to screw up my registration. All I can say about the matter, I'm hoping to vote for Arnold Schwarzenegger for Governor in a few short months.

I had to leave my wife in Los Angeles when I returned. I have to admit I am missing her a little bit. It was weird waking up and her not being there.

Honey, if you read this [in arnold accent] "I'll be back," in no time.

Finally here...

Okay. Las Vegas to Los Angeles was our shortest drive, but the roughest day by far. Traffic was horrendous.

We are here now and that's all that matters. Goodnight...more this weekend.

Vegas Strip on a budget

We drove 12 hours today from Denver to Las Vegas. Man was that rough...but it's over. Tomorrow is only 4 hours to L.A. and the chance to relax for a few days.

We went to dinner and played a few bucks (cause we can't afford more) in the casino. Now we are going to sleep.

Halfway there or more...

Haven't written anything in a while. Was in Indiana Thurs-Mon and was in Kansas City Monday night. Tonight we are stopped in Denver.

We got to Denver expecting another cheap, but free room (thanks to Marriott Rewards) and instead was treated to an awesome two bedroom suite with kitchenette and other cool items. Too bad we aren't staying here more than overnight.

We will stop in Vegas tomorrow and be in L.A. on Thursday. I will leave my wife in the good hands of her friend Windy on Sunday as I fly back to Ohio.

I will try to put in a couple more entries before I return.

Vacation from my wife

This coming Thursday evening, my wife and I will drive to Anderson, IN to spend time with family and friends at the 2003 North American Convention of the Church of God. I've fondly come to call it "crampmeeting." I will be singing Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday at the L.I.V.E. Ministries tent with Vision of Hope.

On Monday after lunch, we will leave for Los Angeles with stops in Kansas City, Denver and Las Vegas. Thursday we will arrive at our friend's house, Ken and Windy, where Kristina will be staying until she finds us a home in the area. Sunday I will fly back to Ohio and leave Kristina our new Mitsubishi Lancer to enjoy in Southern California traffic.

It will be good for us to prepare things separately. Now I just have to distract the mother-in-law and my evil plan can come to fruition...woo..ha...ha...ha...ha...ha!

Just kidding.

1. Reason for moving...

Okay, top of my list this morning...

Even if I had to get up to be at work by 7:30 in PST, it would still be three hours later than now.

I hate mornings, but specifically mornings in EST.

Us musician types weren't meant to be up before 10 a.m.

Song stealing

Since when does taking the melody from three different songs and putting them together with your own sucky lyrics constitute writing a new song?

Apparently it's ok for someone who is graduating in a few days and has rooster haircut.

I'm gonna start taking credit for writing some Grammy Winning songs. I think I might have written "Change Your World" by Eric Clapton. Someone owes me money.

If it's too loud...

That old saying, "if it's too loud, you are too old" only should apply if the band doesn't suck. I like my music on the louder side, but some of the bands at the high school where I work play loud and just plain suck.

There should be a new reality show to find the suckiest band in America. Call it American Suckle or something.

On that note, goodbye to the class of 2003.

My last evening...

It hit me about 30 minutes ago that this is my last official evening school activity as District A/V Specialist and Auditorium Manager for Beavercreek City Schools.

I still have two more morning activities for finals and a full Sunday of a rental dance recital. Then all I have to do is clean up around here and train the high school principals how to run the auditorium and train another person how to program and run the cable access channel...then I'm done.

This is never a job that I sought out to do or dreamed about, but it has been my longest ever. That says a lot about me and the journey that I've taken while I've been here. It's been the farthest from what I really wanted to do, but helped me to realize that I really do want to do what I want to do.

I got some great advice a few years ago about deciding and settling on a career path. When you can't do anything else, but that one thing...that's when you know it is meant to be and you will truly be happy and successful.

Monday Morning Madness

Kristina called me when I got to work. Kyle, the little boy with cancer, died on Sunday. Life isn't fair. He was only 8 years old. I didn't really know him, just met him once or twice. His mom worked with Nancy, my mother-in-law. Please pray for his family.

It's weird how things effect you. I've been excited to be getting ready to move, but probably taking for granted that I have the ability to do so. As different friends and family find out about our move, everyone reacts differently from wanting to know all the details to "just send me a letter with your new address when you get there."

The time is flying by for our preparations to move, but life still happens. Sometime you just need things to happen to wake you up and realize that this is real. Sometimes things in life are more than what you want. Sometimes it is about what we need even though we DON'T want it.
